Micro Blog #2 - The bench, the old man, and me

As I sit here quietly on a bench in the Hiroshima Peace Park I am not alone. I joined an older man. Other than to say “bless you” to him after he sneezed we have not spoken.

We have sat quietly, taking in our surroundings. Behind us is the peace bell, occasionally wringing on the wind. The river ripples gently in front of us. Trams rumble over the nearby bridge.

And as tourists, locals and school kids come and go from the viewpoint in front of us we sit, not speaking, just observing.

I do not his thoughts, his story or his name, and I wonder if he is contemplating the world around him as I am doing.

All I do know is that he let me sit on this bench with him today and for that I am grateful.

And the view we have is of the dome, I don’t think I want to say much more.

I stand to leave and say ありがとう.
