Closing the curtain in Osaka
My time in Osaka flashed before my eyes it feels like. I’m sitting here now actually struggling to remember what I did. Osaka castle was impressive, although I didn’t go in, from the outside there is so much detail and it really is a focal point for the city.
I visited Korea town which had loads of small shops selling Korean foods and while I didn’t partake in any I think it would be a cool place to visit for dinner one night. I actually walked there from my hotel which took about an hour and a bit and let me tell you that was warm… I ended up in a family mart for a break, this is something which was a staple of my trip if truth be told.
I did a lot of walking, listening to podcasts, taking in the city and eating good food.
I was based in the Dotonbori area which turned out to be a massive win if I am honest. The street seen in the evening was strong and the bright neon lights & billboards were impressive to someone who’s not had a whole lot of that in there life.
I had a great chat with Masato one evening in the hotel and I hope that our paths cross again at some point. Good luck with your studies and see you soon.
I will definitely return to Japan and would definitely go back to all the places which I went to again as theres just so much to see and do. The food alone is worth going back for in my eyes… I miss 7eleven rice balls already.
Laughing lots
In a *shocking* turn of events I ended up speaking to the person next to me on the flight from Osaka to Brisbane… now we have to remember that this was an overnight job on a ‘budget’ airline, so not the best. But man alive the laughs I had more than made up for the limited leg room and freezing cold temperatures.
Lauren, a kiwi, who was on her way home after a trip to Norway and a stop off in Japan had decided to change her seat the day before because the one I was in was empty… what a kicker ay.
Either way we sat and spent the first 3 hours of this flight laughing about all sorts from Jetstars pricing for a bottle of water, right through to whether customs would let her in with her hiking shoes that she’d cleaned at Osaka airport with a toothbrush.
All I can say is thank you for the laughs and making my flight a whole lot more enjoyable, but man alive your feet were howling and I really deserve some form of compensation.
Bright sunny Brisbane
With weather like a nice summers day back home Brisbane has been good on that front and a lot more comfortable than Japan.
As I get settled the moving anxiety is subsiding again which I’m glad about and it’s definitely happening faster than it did in Japan.
Great mix of people from all over at my first hostel which has been super nice and great to chat to different people. Turns out 26 seems to be the age at which we’ve all decided to flit. Most people are here working but it’s been good to chat to folk.
I took myself up to Australia zoo, which is nowhere near Brisbane by the way, so that involved trains, buses and an Uber to boot. But all transport shenanigans aside it was worth it in my eyes. Big enclosures with plenty of room for the animals to roam. But the main show was of course the crocs and an Irwin… I was lucky enough to have Robert doing the show and it was really cool, the kid is his dad all over.
After multiple recommendations I’m off North Stradbroke Island on Sunday for a few nights to enjoy the beaches and local wildlife. From what I have seen online and the way speak about it has got me excited for it!
After that I need to see what I fancy but I think the Gold Coast for a wee while would be nice before starting the journey south.
I can’t talk about Brisbane and not mention Keith who has been a mega help with ideas and is going to keep my gigantic bag while I swan off to North Straddie for a few nights. Thank you mate it's much appreciated!
