If you guessed feeling overwhelmed than A star for you. Turns out travelling to the other side of the planet on your own will do that to you. Who’d have thunk it?
This blog isn’t about being happy go lucky 100% of the time, its about life while travelling and that means talking about all of it (if you want to hear about the shite that was the length of my arm then I can but I suspect folk would prefer I didn't). There are positives straight out the gate don’t get me wrong, the supermarkets are ace, the transport system is *chefs kiss* and everyone is so polite, even towards scotsman who is literally learning the basics as he goes.
Lufthansa, ANA and saying TTFN.
Flights wise they’re by no means the worst I’ve had, in fact they’re probably in my Top 10 all things considered, I slept the whole way to Germany so I honestly couldn’t tell you anything about the Lufthansa flight other than that I was on it.
The ANA flight was a different kettle of fish… long haul… luckily most of the in-flight entertainment was films I’d skipped or missed at the cinema over the last few months (I only watched the 1 film in the end, Argylle, it wasn’t great but wasn’t bad either). The first meal wasn’t anything to write home about, but when is economy airplane food? All in all I slept for most of the flight (I think).
Saying Ta Ta for Now is never easy, especially when everyone knows its a long old time until you say hello again. There was almost tears on a number of occasions from me but the likelihood is I ran off before the waterworks started.
This town is nuts.
Having only explored a fraction of Tokyo I’m in now place to comment but the only comparison I can draw is to New York, expect Tokyo is clean, doesn’t smell and people are a lot different. But the energy is similar in a way, its definitely not the same and it’s been a decade since I was in NYC but I have that same feeling here that 16 year old me had in the big apple.
I think I was Tokyo answer to Harrods because there was an 11 quid peach the size of my fist… thats all I have to add on the peach to be honest.
Capsule hotel and sweating like hell.
I don't think I have ever sweat so much just being outside in a city, it is very warm currently, 35º and humidity in the 70% range.
The bed is comfy, toilets clean and the showers are good… the lockers aren’t huge but I do have 9 months worth of gear inside my bag so I cant hold that against them.
I have been drinking electrolytes like the are going out of fashion and still my pee is the colour of someone who’s probably dehydrated… I’ll be fine… probably… just gonna keep drinking electrolytes and hope I balance it out.
Closing remarks.
Yes I’ve been anxious, and very overwhelmed, more so than I have in a long old time but I’m fighting it and giving myself the chance to adjust and get settled.
Honestly I didn’t know what I was gonna write when I started this one but I've rambled and put this together… who knows if anyone will even get this far.
I’ll keep cracking on and see what else this city has to offer :D
